53rd Annual RRCA National Convention

Fredericksburg, Virginia · May 12-15, 2011

WELCOME
RRCA
MEMBERS

On behalf of the Fredericksburg Area Running Club (FARC) and the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), welcome to Fredericksburg, Virginia. As partners and organizers of the 2011 RRCA Convention, FARC and MCM are preparing a weekend of events that are sure to be memorable for you and your family.

It is a pleasure to host the RRCA convention in the City of Fredericksburg where American history is alive, attracting visitors to the 40-block National Historic District. Conveniently located on I-95 between the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C., and Virginia’s capital, Richmond, Fredericksburg boasts scenic riverside views along the picturesque Rappahannock River, the charm of old town and numerous colonial and revolutionary landmarks, museums and art galleries.

The theme for the 2011 RRCA convention, “Running. Fredericksburg. Timeless.” truly sets the tone for your experience. The City of Fredericksburg is filled with enduring adventures and landmarks such as George Washington’s boyhood home at Ferry Farm, the James Monroe Museum, Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop, the Kenmore Plantation, Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont and much more! While in town, stroll through the distinctive boutiques and antique shops, retrace the past at one of two Civil War cemeteries -- including a Civil War battlefield -- enjoy a delightful ride on a horse-drawn carriage or seek the flavors of a local pub, winery or one of many restaurants and sidewalk cafes.

The staff at the Fredericksburg Visitor’s Center offers walking, trolley, carriage and even ghost tours, for individuals or for the entire family. The Visitor’s Center is located directly across from the 2011 RRCA Convention host hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott. Many of the RRCA speaker sessions will be held at this location within walking distance of many other convention events. Opened in 2008, the Courtyard by Marriott boasts state-of-the-art technology within its historic downtown setting.

No RRCA convention weekend would be complete without running events to capitalize on the excitement!

The Healthy Lifestyle Expo for runners and fitness enthusiasts of all ages will be open on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 at the Expo & Conference Center in Fredericksburg’s Central Park shopping district. The expo features health and nutrition vendors, running gear, fitness products and runner’s Packet-Pickup for the weekend’s championship race, the Marine Corps Historic Half.

In Fredericksburg, you are invited to “run in the footsteps of presidents and generals” in the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon. The 13.1 mile race is open to all runners and relay teams ages 10 and above. The annual Semper Fred 5K will immediately follows the Historic Half. All of these running events start and finish outside the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center on Sunday, May 15.

We hope you will soon register for the 2011 RRCA convention. FARC and the MCM are anticipating a fantastic turnout and welcome you to all that awaits in timeless Fredericksburg.

Sincerely,

Jack Morrison, President                                                  Rick Nealis, Director
