| Founded in 2007, the RRCA: Club College® is a core group of educational sessions offered annually at the RRCA Convention. Club College is designed to increase participants’ knowledge in key areas of running club management. The sessions include managing your nonprofit, effective financial management & resource development, insurance & managing risk, and implementing RRCA programs & services to benefit your club. At the conclusion, attendees will “graduate” with a diploma from the RRCA: Club College® and return home with the tools needed to develop or maintain the most effective running clubs around the country. |

RRCA INSURANCE & MANAGING RISK FEATURING TERRY DILLER
This session will be held as a general session for all attendees following the Star Insurance - K&K Breakfast and the Opening General Session of the Convention. This session is designed to educate club and event leaders about the RRCA insurance program (liability, directors & officers, and equipment). All of your insurance questions will be address and there will be discussion on managing risks from lessons learned from claims on the policies.
Professor: Terry Diller has been the insurance broker for the RRCA for more than fifteen years. He currently specializes in commercial insurance accounts. He has been involved with other sports organizations including the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), United State Taekwondo Union, Iditarod Dog Sled Race, National Amateur Bodybuilding Association and more. He has been married to wife Debbie for more than 25 years and has two sons, Dustin and Trent. He runs 40-45 miles per week and the 100th running of the Boston Marathon is his most memorable running experience.

| MANAGING YOUR NONPROFIT CLUB AND EVENT
This session, from the BoardSource Governance Series, focuses on the fundamentals of managing a nonprofit organization including the ten basic responsibilities of nonprofit boards, leadership roles in nonprofit governance, legal responsibilities, and setting and advancing the mission of your organization.
Professor: Douglas J. Olberding is an
associate professor of sport management at Xavier University in Cincinnati,
Ohio, and chair of Xavier’s Department of Sport Studies. He received his
doctoral degree in sport management from the University of Kentucky in 1999,
and a Master’s Degree in political science in 1990 from Ohio University.
His most recent published works include examinations of the relationship
between strategic management and athletic performance in U.S. Olympic sport
organizations. He has also written on the economic impact of sport enterprises
to their host communities and the effects import substitution in the estimation
of the economic impact of sport events. In the area of sport marketing, he has
written on building brand equity in sport enterprises. Prior to
coming to Xavier, Dr. Olberding was the men’s and women’s cross country coach
at Transylvania University. Dr. Olberding has also worked with YMCA of Central
Kentucky, and The Council of State Governments, both located in Lexington,
Kentucky. Aside from his duties at Xavier, Dr. Olberding serves as chairman of
the Reggae Run, the largest 5-Kilometer race in southwestern Ohio. In this
capacity, he has helped the organization raise nearly $800,000 for local
charities over the past 14 years. He is also on the Board of Directors of the
Flying Pig Marathon. He and served as the organization’s treasurer for 4 years
and is currently the vice-chair of the Pig.

ADVANCED ISSUES IN GOVERNANCE
This session, led by a team of seasoned RRCA club presidents will walk participants through a few case studies of important issues a club may face and engage the class in a dialog on how a board can work together to manage the issues. This session will also focus on the use of Roberts Rules of Order when conducting meetings to ensure productivity and order during times of organizational challenges
Professors: Tandy Chalmers, the RRCA state representative for Arizona, is a PhD Candidate in marketing at the University of Arizona, specializing in the running industry. She is also a member of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners board of directors. Over the past two years with SAR, Tandy has taken on various roles ranging from race directing, to working on the membership committee, to public relations advising, and being a member of a committee designed to address the challenges facing the club as a result of being a non-profit in a for-profit world.
Randy Accetta is in his sixth year as President of the 1,300 member Southern Arizona Roadrunners, in Tucson, Arizona. A former 2:19 marathoner who competed in the 1996 US Olympic Marathon Trials, he currently coaches recreational runners and produces a handful of races in Tucson. He teaches Entrepreneurship and Business Communication at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management.

PROTECTING YOUR CLUB ASSETS This session will focus on financial responsibilities of boards, effectively managing the finances of the organization, the importance of financial controls, division of duties, designing and managing a budget, fundraising responsibilities, tax concerns, investment strategies, and more.
Professor: Jean Knaack, MPA, is the Executive Director of the Road Runners Club of America. She brings over fifteen years of nonprofit management experience to the position. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay with a Bachelors of Science in Human Nutrition. In 2000, she earned a Master's of Public Administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from George Mason University. Since, locating to the Washington, DC area in 1997, Jean has developed broad skills in the nonprofit management arena by working in senior- level positions for 501(c)3 organizations that include a world renowned arts organization, an international conservation organization, and a grass-roots activist organization. She has experience managing the financial operations of organizations ranging in size from $100,000 to $10 million. Jean has extensive skills in organizational and financial development, board and member relations, and program planning and implementation. Jean is an avid runner, swimmer, and competitive triathlete and occasionally places in her age group. She completed the inaugural Ford Ironman Kentucky race in 2007.

| RRCA PARTNERS, PROGRAMS, SERVICES, AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
This session will focus on how to successfully integrate RRCA programs and services as well as RRCA partners' offerings into your running club or event. This is also an opportunity to learn about volunteer and leadership opportunities within the RRCA. We also encourage participants to share how they have incorporated RRCA programs into their club/event or developed community based programs that could be shared on a national scale through the RRCA.
Professor: Ken has been running since 1981 and is a member of the Florida Striders and JTC Running clubs. Ken was appointed as North Florida RRCA State Rep in 1996, was honored as the RRCA Outstanding State Rep in 1999 and has attended 13 RRCA conventions. He has received the "JTC Running" and Florida Striders' Outstanding Volunteer Awards and earned the RRCA National Volunteer Award in 1995. He served as chair of the State Rep committee from 2000 through 2005. During that period he was instrumental in developing the State Rep Handbook and most recently as a board member contributed significantly to the publication of the Regional Director's Handbook. He has been instrumental in updating and improving the awards and championship event programs. As Southern Region Director, Ken oversees 11 southern states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. |
