Biomechanics
of Running Summary
This course is designed to present to the coach distance running
mechanics. The discussion will
include muscle recruitment, current run form techniques, and how poor mechanics
can contribute to injury. Common
running injuries will be reviewed and how to provide tips to minimize the stress
that running can place on joints, tendons and other body
structures.
Injury Recognition and Tools to Return the Runner to
Sport
This course is designed to help the coach recognize injury through basic
assessment of the body type, shoe selection, and run form. The coach will be provided with tools to
help identify the characteristics of pain, cross training principles to keep the
athlete fit while recovering from injury and determine when to refer the athlete
to a medical professional.
Case studies will be presented to help develop the skills of injury
recognition and how to progress the runner back into the training program once
they are cleared to resume running.
