Guest Speaker Freddi Carlip
The 2011 RRCA Convention will host a “Rules of the Road” seminar for all runners —from the longtime road runner to the newbie – everyone is sure to benefit from the session led by Freddi Carlip, a.k.a. Miss Road Manners.
Carlip served as president of the Road Runners Club of America from 2000 to 2004. Prior to that period, she was Vice President, Eastern Director, and the Pennsylvania State Representative, for which she was awarded outstanding State Rep for 1990.
She developed race-etiquette guidelines as her alter-ego, white-gloved Miss Road Manners, to help runners learn the “rules of the road, track and trail.” Miss Road Manners has spoken at races, club meetings and past RRCA conventions. Miss RM, as she is affectionately called, can be seen in races wearing her trademark white gloves making sure racers are minding their road manners.
A Philadelphia native who lives in Lewisburg, PA, Carlip has been running and racing since the 1970s. She is Editor and Publisher of “Runner’s Gazette,” a monthly Mid-Atlantic running publication, which is the oldest running newspaper in the United States. Carlip also served as the first woman president and founding member of the Buffalo Valley Striders, based in Lewisburg, and is member of the Susquehanna Ridge Runners in PA. As a member of the RRCA Board, Carlip was managing editor of the RRCA’s 40th anniversary book – “Boom! Forty Years of Running and Writing with the RRCA.” She also is founding Chair of the Browning Ross Memorial Award committee. Carlip is a steering committee member of CARE¾Community Alliance for Respect and Equality and is Chair of the East Buffalo Township Bike/Pedestrian Committee that works with the township to promote safe routes for runners, walkers and cyclists.
“Whatever the pace, wherever the race, mind your road manners.” - Miss Road Manners
